PIC is applying animal waste from its Apex and Aurora facilities in North America to fields on local crop farms to fertilize the land.

Around 28 million gallons of manure are is produced each year – enough to cover 5,000 acres – and are being pumped up to four miles and injected into farmers’ soil (which ensures direct application to required areas). Nutrient testing of both the manure and the soil defines the application rates for each of the farms involved, which ensures proper nutrient density for the crop that farmers propose to produce. Using this organic matter reduces farmers’ use of commercial fertilizer, with the chemicals these involve, and also improves soil quality. The process is audited every year by an independent third party to ensure compliance with all local regulations.
