Manure-related emissions in our Brazilian porcine joint venture were over 4,500 tonnes in 2020. To mitigate this, manure is pumped from pig housing into biogas capture ‘covers’, which prevents them from going into the atmosphere.

A mechanical separator separates animal slurry into liquid and solid fractions. The solid fraction of manure is then applied to agroforestry plantation – and this long-term cropping helps lock up atmospheric carbon in the soil and tree biomass.
