Liquid nitrogen (‘LN2’) plays a key part in storing bull semen.

However, LN2 boils at -196°C, so even fleeting contact can permanently damage skin and soft tissues. In addition, one litre of LN2 can create 700 litres of gas, posing an asphyxiation risk. We have introduced measures to control the risks. For example, in the UK we have worked with our transport supplier to modify its vans, keeping LN2 storage separate from the driver’s compartment.
