A productive and future-ready herd

PJ Williams & Partners, based in Cheshire (UK), has worked with ABS for over 40 years. The farm operates a 60/40 breeding split to beef and dairy, ensuring they produce enough replacement heifers while extracting maximum value from their beef cross calves.

While the farm’s genetic strategy has changed over the years, its focus is now on driving higher milk production across the herd, increasing supply to their milk buyer Müller. Using the ABS Reproductive Management System (RMS) has helped the team increase pregnancy rates from 12% to 31%, and the use of Sexcel® has helped them produce the high-quality replacement heifers required.

Meanwhile, lower-performing animals that are not suitable for breeding replacements are used to generate additional value through beef genetics. Beef calves are then sold for a fixed price through Gamechanger, an industry-leading integrated beef supply chain created by ABP and Sainsbury’s who have partnered with ABS to supply dairy farmers with dedicated ABS beef sires for this scheme.

With a clear plan and the right genetics support, PJ Williams & Partners is building a herd that is both productive and future-ready, contributing to a greater supply of high-quality milk and meat across the UK.
